Random Lake, WI – Random Lake Elementary School is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Copernicus Educational Products that is redefining what primary education can look like. Through the shared vision of hands-on, meaningful learning, the school is launching a dynamic initiative called “Structured Adventures,” a bold step forward in enhancing academic learning with student experiences rooted in exploration, movement, connection, and purpose.
As one of the earliest districts in Wisconsin to adopt a 1:1 student device program and the first in the state to be certified for virtual learning snow days, Random Lake has spent over a decade on the leading edge of digital instruction. This depth of experience in educational technology has helped our staff deeply understand that while screen-based tools are powerful, true student growth requires balance, connection, and real-world engagement. Structured Adventures is our answer: a dynamic initiative that integrates physical movement, community partnerships, and social-emotional learning to cultivate students who are not only academically capable but also confident, compassionate, and ready to thrive in life beyond the classroom.
For the 2025-2026 school year, every elementary classroom is equipped with Self-Regulation Pedal Desks, a tool that allows students to engage their bodies while focusing their minds. The impact has been immediate. “We’ve already seen a marked reduction in behavior challenges,” said Susie Goneau, a classroom teacher who piloted the desks last year. “Students are more attentive and self-regulated when they’re able to move while learning.”
But the Structured Adventures model goes well beyond the classroom. Students at Random Lake Elementary now have access to:
An auto-belay indoor rock climbing wall to build resilience and problem-solving
Nature trails with obstacle zones to foster curiosity and connection to the outdoors
Specials Schedule of Art, Music, and STEM to develop creativity and teamwork
Regular field trips to the public library to promote community literacy
Intergenerational visits with residents at “Gables on the Pond” to cultivate empathy through the “Generations” program
Together with Copernicus, a North American leader in innovative classroom furniture, this partnership ensures that every student has the tools, space, and encouragement to learn by doing.
“This isn’t just about flexible seating or fun field trips,” said Dr. Michael Trimberger, Superintendent. “It’s about designing an elementary experience that now braids our high-quality curriculum while helping students regulate their emotions, engage with their community, and develop the life-ready skills that we know lead to long-term success.”
Structured Adventures is not an isolated program but the foundation for a district-wide vision that extends through middle and high school. With thriving community engagement programs in the community, such as job shadows, mock interviews, and Youth Apprenticeship programs at the upper levels, Random Lake is ensuring that its youngest learners begin their journey with the same sense of purpose, exploration, and direction that defines its graduates.
