Read Across Random was a wonderful celebration of literacy throughout our schools! Students and families enjoyed a variety of special activities, including Family Literacy Night, classroom reading swaps with elementary teachers, hallway readers lining our halls, and even time spent reading outdoors in the sunshine.

We were also excited to welcome children’s author Sally Werdeo from Kiel, Wisconsin. Sally shared her delightful book, My Name’s Not Freddy, and engaged students in a fun and inspiring discussion about writing and illustrating. What a fantastic opportunity for our students to hear from a real published author!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Read Across Random such a memorable experience and celebration of reading!

Alumni speaker Sydney Gruman shared her journey from the School District of Random Lake to earning her degree in Agriculture at UW–Platteville. After graduation, she faced a tough job market with only two Agriculture teaching positions available in Wisconsin.

Sydney spoke about the importance of resilience and adaptability as she pivoted her plans and accepted a 4K teaching position at West Fork School District in Iowa. She encouraged students to stay true to themselves, prioritize balance, and not worry about others’ opinions of their path.

One message that resonated with students was:
“Your future is only for you, so don’t worry about what others think of your plan. Make sure you are doing what is right for YOU.”

She also left students with this powerful reminder:
“It is important to keep moving forward, even when you are at rock bottom. Especially when you are at rock bottom.”

Let's crack a myth: Youth Apprenticeships (YA) aren't just for students pursuing a 2-year degree or a career in the trades.

Our data at Random Lake High School speaks for itself...

We are not just building skills. We are building futures in every career pathway.

We are extremely grateful to our community partners, staff, and families for believing in the power of YA!

Last week we had the opportunity to celebrate Kurt, Susie, Cindy, and Amy, who together represent over 100 years of experience working with kids. Think about that for a moment. A century of early mornings, long days, hard work, a whole lot of steps, and showing up for students on the days they needed it most.

We had a great lunch, fun pictures, and a moment to celebrate with staff and students, why we love this group. Thank you for helping us capture what they have meant to all of us. It was a day filled with smiles and stories, but also a little sadness. It was just one small way to say thank you. It does not come close to matching the impact they have had, but it was our chance to pause and recognize just how lucky we have been to have them here.

Kurt, Susie, Cindy, and Amy, please let us thank you for everything you have given to Random Lake. You have left a mark on generations of students and on all of us who had the privilege to work alongside you. You will be deeply missed, but like all great retirees, we fully expect to see you back here from time to time because once you are a Ram, you are always a Ram.

Please help us celebrate our retirees and help them enjoy what’s next; they have more than earned it!!

Last week, Random Lake High School welcomed our incoming 9th graders for 8th Grade Transition Day!

Over the past four years, our pupil services team, staff, freshmen mentors have continued to collaborate and fine tune this experience to create an elevated mentorship environment for incoming freshmen.

Students participated in icebreakers, small group sessions, peer-perspective tours, and a powerful final “Cross the Line” activity that reminded students they are not alone in many of the feelings and emotions that come with starting high school.

As we prepare to graduate four of our Freshmen Mentors in the coming weeks, we sincerely thank them for their leadership and commitment to this program. They have helped blaze the trail for what has become a truly inspiring experience for incoming freshmen.

What a fun day of learning!

Our students spent time exploring Gray Whales and fossils, and there was so much excitement in the classroom.

A big thank you to Mrs. Barber for sharing her knowledge and helping students learn more about these amazing ocean animals. Getting a look inside a whale was definitely a highlight of the day and made science feel real and memorable for our learners.

Days like this are what make hands-on learning so special! 🐋🦴
